If you have been following this blog, you’ll know that I have diligently been working to form a non profit organization to award college scholarships to students with Tourette’s Syndrome.

Yesterday, the mail came, with an envelope from the IRS.

With a bit of trepidation I opened it…to discover that The Kelsey B. Diamantis TS Scholarship Family Foundation, Inc. dba Dollars 4 Tic Scholars has been approved as a 501c3 organization!!!!! I could literally jump for joy!

I filled out the IRS 1023-EZ form on July 31. I received the determination letter on August 18! That sure beats the long form, which sometimes has been taking 6, 9, even 15 months for review and approval.

It is not like “all systems are go”, however. I have to fill out the Florida Solicitation application, get a sales tax account and a Tax ID number. There’s probably another form – I need to check my notes.

I’m currently putting together specs to get some website quotes for our non- profit…because before we publicize in a BIG way, I want to have a site for people to visit once they hear of us.

This has been quite a bit of work. But I can’t wait to go public and spread the word about this opportunity for TS students.
